Elelctions are over and as you and we can see, left coalition has swept Kerala and West Bengal. The question arises is that, what has media observed in these elections. Just have a look at the headlines of all the newspapers and TV news channels on the day when the results got announced. Laal Hi Laal (in Hindustaan), Laal used in every newspaper and TV channels. Even Jansatta and Hindu didn't avoid using Red and Laal. Why? Does media have any complex regarding the left parties that time and again when left parties come in news, they use terms like Red Alert or Red Corner Notice (Times Of India) or Left Ki Ankhein Laal (Navbharat Times). Does they have any understanding of what Red means?
When we see the present character of the parliamentary left parties, we can easily say that they are no longer different than BJP or Congress in terms of governance, policies and programs. Parliamentary politics was chosen as a strategy by the left parties years back to expose the whole system and its anti-people character. Slowly and steadily, CPI and CPM (Don't count one man armies like RSP) became used to the bourgouse techniques of politics and they got completely indulged into it. People who are aware of the things, who read regularly and have some progressive stand can easily sort out the difference between a literal communist party and the CPI and CPM. Both of these have lost the revolutionary character and there is no chance of their coming back on track.
Media, either has no understanding of the differences between revolutionary and bourgousie politics or it is doing so deliberately. It's not like that they are glorifying the history of Indian revolution rather they are seriously damaging the whole left movement. When I say left movement, I am seriously saying about what is left out from left; the puritans and the extremist groups. This creates an illusion in the minds of the people regarding the Left parties.
Just to cite an instance, when I was in Navbharat Times, one of my colleagues Saroj Dhulia was making the international page on a day. There was a news item about CPI(ML) and the heading contained the party's name. Heading was somewhat long and the wise woman just ran the knife on ML to cut short the name and lo... the whole news item became a joke. When she was told about her deliberate blunder, she suddenly became the most innocent person on earth and said that she did so because the heading was not fit in the double column space. This is just one instance. If you ask the byte carriers the name of major left parties and groups, you will get to know about the darkest scenario in the Indian media.
This is just getting scared of the technicalities regarding the left parties due to which people in the media generalise everything into Red. Just to ask, why should media be scared of red? Any answers?
